Cruising Initiative Timeline
December 18 2017: City Council adopted R-17-250, creating a Cruising Task Force charged with making recommendations to promote responsible cruising in the City of Albuquerque.
November 5, 2018: City Council 1) repealed the Cruising on Public Streets Ordinance and 2) adopted R-18-66 directing the Cultural Services Department to develop a Special Interest Vehicle Recognition program.
June 20, 2019: City Councilor Klarissa Peña secured $30,000 from the City of Albuquerque’s FY2020 Budget to fund At-Risk Youth Programs and Outreach under the Albuquerque Police Department’s Neighborhood Policing budget line. This $30,000 was committed to developing APD’s first Lowrider Patrol Vehicle.
August 11, 2019: City Councilor Klarissa Peña holds Lowrider Day at Isotopes Park to showcase APD’s first Lowrider Patrol Vehicle and the Cultural Services Department’s Special Interest Vehicle Recognition program.
